The First Whisky I Bought for Myself: A Taipei Duty-Free Story

In the past, I had purchased whisky before, but it was always for business purposes or as gifts for others. I had never spent a single dime buying a bottle strictly for my own consumption. This trip to Taiwan completely changed that.

Unlocking Kavalan in Taipei

While traveling in Taiwan, I met up with a close friend who lives there. We headed to a dedicated Kavalan tasting bar, where we sampled a wide variety of expressions. Drinking through the lineup, I fell even deeper into the charm of whisky and became completely captivated by the intense profile of Kavalan.

The TPE Airport Selection

On my way back home, standing in front of the shelves at Taipei Airport (TPE) duty-free, I carefully contemplated my options. After some deliberation, I walked out with two bottles—marking the first time I bought whisky purely for myself.

1. Kavalan Triple Sherry

An incredible tropical sherry release that I fell in love with during my stay in Taipei.

2. Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak

My long-time all-time favorite sherry expression, which was an absolute must-buy without a second thought.
